Concordia University Wisconsin Athletic Drug Education and Testing Policy

Drug dependency is one of the problems the most important which face athletics and today's society. The use of illicit drugs, the abuse of lawful drugs and supplements, the use of substances improving performance, abuse of alcohol and the inappropriate use of the tobacco are completely incompatible with norms expected from the students-athletes to the University Concordia. Because of this belief, the Concordia university and the Department of athletics chose to take a firm position and prospeeds up against student-athlete of use and / or participation in the alcohol, the tobacco, improving performance and illicit drugs. Knowing the gravity of the abuse of drugs and how it is detrimental to an individual and mental ease, the student-athlete of health, security and ease are our first priority.
Every member of the sports community is responsible to know risks linked to drug dependency and abuse. Medically and socially, risks can gravely harm the performances of an individual at the same time as student and as athlete, and is possible endanger the ease of their team mates. As a result, the students athletes, coaches and the personnel are required to know the policies of the secondary school pertinent, federal, of state and local laws and obliged to act in accordance with this policies and laws.
This policy does not constitute a contract between the student-athlete and the Concordia university and is subject to change at all times and without notice to the student-athlete. For the purposes of the present policy, "student-athlete", every student of the University Concordia who participates in a department of the University Concordia, of punished athletics by sports events and / or national practices. Please note that this policy represents the policy of the University Concordia on drug dependency and tests. Every student-athlete is also subjected to trial programmes of NCAA, who is separated and distinct from the present policy.
Purpose
The purpose of this policies is to tell drug dependency and abuse by the students-athletes across the education, of test and professional direction.

Alcohol, tobacco and other drugs Education
The participants who are sensitised for the use of substances in sports are more disposed to make decisions informed and lighted on use. As a result, the Concordia university will undertake a programme of education of drugs at least once a year. These programmes will be conceived for the team of individual examination, department of sports, institutional, of conference and of NCAA the alcohol, tobacco and policies of other drugs. Every chief coach is responsible every year to inform the manager of sports before training begins rules of the team about these substances. Consent to participate
Conditional on the participation of athletes in intercollegiate athletics at Concordia University, each student will be required to sign a consent form agreeing to undergo drug testing and authorize the release of test results in accordance with this policy (see Annex A). Failure to consent or to comply with the requirements of this policy results in May, suspension from practice and / or competition or termination of eligibility to participate in intercollegiate athletics at Concordia University. Each coach is responsible for having its athletes to sign the consent form required before any equipment is issued and before the athlete is involved in any practice. The Head Athletic Trainer report any breach of this policy to the athletic director and Vice President of Student Life.
Alcohol Policy
Concordia University does not tolerate illegal or irresponsible use of alcohol. It is the responsibility of each member of the College community about the risks associated with alcoholism and abuse. This responsibility requires student-athletes about college policies and relevant federal, state and local laws and behave in accordance with these laws and policies. In addition, a recruitment "dry" policy exists. Prospective student-athletes visit the campus and socialize with current students are expected to participate in all activities without the influence of alcohol. It should be understood that the possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages by individuals under the age of 21 is a violation of state laws alcohol. According to NCAA Bylaw 31.1.13, alcoholic beverages should not be sold or otherwise made available for public consumption, anyway championship sponsored or administered by the NCAA, nor shall any such beverages be brought on site during the championship.
Smoking Policy
The NCAA, under NCAA Bylaw 11.1.5 prohibits the use of tobacco products by all game personnel (eg coaches, trainers, managers and game officials) in all sports during practice and competition. Uniform penalties (as determined by the rules-making committees and sports committees with rules-making responsibilities) shall be established for such use. Each coach is obliged to inform the director of sports where the coach has information that the tobacco policy has been violated by a student-athlete and / or coach.
Other illegal drugs / substances
The process of screening drugs include the analysis of May, but is not limited to, the list of NCAA-banned substances drug classes, which are found in Appendix B. The list of NCAA-banned substances drug classes is subject to change by the executive committee of the NCAA. Selected types of drug testing at Concordia University
Random testing is unannounced
All student-athletes who have signed the institutional drug testing consent form and are listed on the institutional squad list are subject to unannounced random testing.
Students appearing in the NCAA or institutional squad list who have exhausted their eligibility or who have career ending injuries will not be selected. Student-athletes will be selected to test the official squad list institutional computer program using a random number.
The reasonable suspicion testing
A student-athlete May be tested at any time, in the case of the Vice-President of Students, the Athletic Director or his designated representative, there is a reasonable belief to suspect the student -aa athlete uses or used a prohibited substance. Examples of such abnormal appearance, conduct or behavior may include, but are not limited to the following: significant drop in school performance or sport, missing class, falling asleep in class, significant weight gain or loss, increased rates of injury or illness, lethargy, agitation or nervousness, irascible, violent acts, loss of friendships or legal involvement.
If the suspicion, the vice-president of student life or the Athletic Director or his designated representative will meet with the student and to provide participants with the student-athlete Drug Testing Notification Form (see Appendix C) . Once notified, participants must remain a member of their coaching staff, athletic personnel administration, or staff of sports medicine, until an adequate specimen is produced. NCAA Qualifier screening
Concordia University in May to drug testing any student-athlete or a team capable of qualifying for the NCAA championship competition. Re-entry Testing
A student-athlete who has had his eligibility to participate in intercollegiate sports suspended by the Concordia University will be required to undergo another drug test came at the expense of the student-athlete before regaining eligibility. Monitoring tests
